I started making my pattern for my coat today and I started by using and existing template for a shirt and a women's skirt which I would stick together to create my coat shape. I slashed the arm hole and enlarged it to make a longer shoulder as I want an over sized look to the garment. I required a fair bit of instruction seeing as I've never made a proper costume for anything and I lack a lot of technical knowledge.
I taped the shirt top to the skirt pattern and slashed the skirt vertically to make it flared.
