A slit was cut down the center of the top of the handle the length of the axe back. The saw blade was thinner than the axe head so I had to make it slightly wider with a tool that looked like a knife but it had a saw blade. Using the off cut from the axe handle I gently knocked the axe head into the handle which was a good firm fit.

A 3mm drill bit and the pillar drill in the workshop was used to make two holes through both the handle and axe head so that two pieces of 3mm metal wire which could be hammered into the holes to ensure no escape for the axe head.

I used a hack saw to cut off any excess wire and also sanded it with some sand paper so there were no sharp bits left that would make it hard to put anything over it to complete the axe or hurt anyone.
